APARTMENT IN ELIPSA – A Creative Interior with a Bold Colour Palette
Size: 60 m²
Interior design: Habitare - Lidija Rutar, Robin Jeram

This project represents a unique renovation of an apartment in the iconic Elipsa building in Ljubljana, designed by architects Sadar+Vuga. The goal of the interior design was to extend the building’s distinctive, playful architecture into the living space, creating an interior that reflects the personality of the owner – a former graphic designer.
Although compact at 60 m², the apartment is efficiently organised through thoughtful interior planning. The layout includes an entrance hall with a guest toilet, an open living area with a kitchen, dining space and lounge, and a separate bedroom with a bathroom. We removed the original doors between these areas to improve flow and create a more connected interior ambience.
The interior furnishing concept draws inspiration from the building’s vivid colours and geometric rhythm. The green colour found in the building’s hallway continues on the apartment’s ceiling and L-shaped wardrobe, seamlessly connecting the entrance with the living area. In the toilet, a graphic black-and-white wallpaper references the architectural patterns of the building. A smoky mirror in the entrance visually enlarges the space, while the apartment door was repainted in anthracite to unify the palette.
The main living area is defined by floor-to-ceiling open shelving that provides space for books, artwork and a work corner. The island kitchen is designed for social cooking, while the modular sofa with adjustable backrests adapts to different seating and lounging positions. The bold colour palette—burnt red, muted green and anthracite—creates a strong backdrop for the owner’s extensive collection of graphic art. A sculptural bust, created by the owner’s late wife, adds a deeply personal layer to the interior.
A small burnt-red hallway leads to the bedroom, where calming shades of blue dominate. A delicate cloud wallpaper extends from the wall onto the ceiling, giving the impression of looking up into the sky. The bathroom continues the playful concept with a green basin on a soft pink vanity.
The result is interior that merges a daring colour palette, custom interior furnishing, and thoughtful interior architecture — a home designed as a visual and emotional extension of its owner’s creative world.
